第98届奥斯卡金像奖提名名单于1月22日（周四）公布，导演瑞恩·库格勒执导的年代吸血鬼题材惊悚片《罪人》一举打破纪录，以16项提名成为单部影片获得提名最多的作品，超越此前保持纪录的《彗星美人》《泰坦尼克号》和《爱乐之城》（均为14项提名）。
《罪人》获得了最佳影片、最佳导演和最佳原创剧本等重量级提名，主演迈克尔·B·乔丹入围最佳男主角，配角乌米·莫萨库和德尔罗伊·林多也双双获得表演类提名，角逐“小金人”。
影片《一战再战》（One Battle After Another）以13项提名紧随其后。该片金球奖得主泰雅娜·泰勒将与莫萨库同台角逐最佳女配角，而林多则将与《一战再战》中的西恩·潘和本尼西奥·德尔·托罗竞争最佳男配角。
演员刘易斯·普尔曼与《紫色姐妹花》（The Color Purple）奥斯卡提名演员丹妮尔·布鲁克斯共同宣读了本届奥斯卡入围名单。颁奖典礼将于3月15日美国东部时间晚上7点/太平洋时间下午4点在ABC电视台播出，主持人柯南·奥布莱恩将再次亮相。提名名单如下：
